Coachella Valley (Riverside County)

Palm Springs, Palm Desert, Indian Wells, and La Quinta represent the densest concentration of golf carts in the western United States. Palm Desert's "Golf Cart Transportation Plan" allows permitted carts on specific city streets. The market here skews heavily toward premium — Club Car and Yamaha are dominant, with significant demand for high-end custom seating and paint matching. Local dealers are deeply experienced with the permitting process.

Orange County Coastal Corridor

Newport Beach, Huntington Beach, San Clemente, and Dana Point have strong NEV/LSV cultures. Coastal residents use carts for beach access, school drop-offs, and local dining runs. California Dealer Considerations

NEV vs. Golf Cart. California DMV is strict on the difference. If a dealer tells you they can make a standard golf cart "street legal" after the fact, be wary. California DMV increasingly rejects conversions. Buy a factory-built LSV with a 17-digit VIN and MCO if you intend to drive on 35 mph public roads.
CARB Compliance. For gas carts (Yamaha, EZGO gas), verify the model is California Air Resources Board (CARB) compliant. Most modern EFI carts are, but older imports may not be.
