Golf Cart Dealer Contract Review | What to Sign (and Avoid)

Don't sign a bad deal. Our checklist for reviewing a golf cart dealer contract, including hidden fees, delivery terms, and warranty language.

Review Before You Sign: The Golf Cart Sales Contract

You’ve found the cart, you’ve agreed on the price, and now the dealer slides a "Sales Agreement" across the desk. Most people sign it without looking. Don't be most people.

Here are the 5 things you must verify in a golf cart contract.

1. The Total "Out-the-Door" Price

Does the price on the paper match the price you agreed on? Check for "Administrative Fees" or "Title Prep Fees" that were added at the last minute. If it's a street-legal LSV, ensure the sales tax is calculated correctly for your home address, not the dealer's address.

2. VIN and Year Verification

Verify that the VIN (Vehicle Identification Number) on the contract matches the physical plate on the cart.

  • Industry Secret: Some dealers sell "New" carts that are actually 2 years old (leftover stock). Check the MSO (Manufacturer’s Statement of Origin) date.

3. Delivery Terms and Timeline

If the cart isn't on the lot, when is it arriving?

  • The Clause to Demand: "Subject to customer inspection upon delivery. Deposit 100% refundable if vehicle does not meet specs or is damaged." Never sign a contract that says "All Deposits Non-Refundable" for a vehicle you haven't seen.

4. Warranty Designation

Does the contract explicitly state the length and scope of the warranty?

  • "As-Is" — If you see this on a new cart contract, walk away immediately. It means they are stripping you of your factory warranty rights.

5. Trade-In Valuation

If you are trading in a cart, ensures the "Allowance" is listed as a separate line item. This is critical for tax purposes, as most states only charge sales tax on the "Net Price" (New Cart Price - Trade-in Value).

Summary: The "Walk-Away" Clause

If a dealer refuses to let you take the contract home to review it overnight, or if they wont explain a specific fee—walk away. There are too many good dealers in the market to settle for a shady one.
